Giving students hands-on training is the focus of the Health
Occupations Career Program. The Education Department of Lake Charles
Memorial has partnered with the Calcasieu Parish School Board to provide
a three-year training program for select high schools. An average of 25
students each year successfully complete this program while Memorial
Hospital serves as clinical site for
certified nurse aide program.
- Sophomore year: students become familiar with medical
terminology.
- Junior year: students observe various specialties, such as
pharmacy, physical therapy and dietary.
- Senior year: students refresh their learning with short
observations of various disciplines and then can work on nursing units
as a nursing assistant trainee.
At the end of this curriculum, participating students become
certified nursing assistants and are qualified to be hired by any
healthcare agency.

based on their selection process and enrollment criteria.
