Full-time Faculty
Alan L. LeBato, MD is Director of the Residency Program since 1997 and a graduate of Louisiana State University Medical School in Shreveport. He completed his residency at W.O. Moss Regional Hospital where he served as chief resident during his third year. Since 1986, he has been in private practice encompassing the full spectrum of family medicine including adult, pediatric, obstetrics and gynecology. He is board certified in Family Medicine. He has been a Diplomat and Fellow of the American Board of Family Medicine since 1996. Dr. LeBato is past president of the Calcasieu Parish Medical Society and the West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital Medical Staff. He serves on the Board of Trustees for Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, as well as on the Physician’s Advisory Board. A member of the American Academy of Family Medicine, the Louisiana Academy of Family Medicine, and the Calcasieu Parish Medical Society. He serves on the education and legislative committees for the Louisiana Academy of Family Medicine. He is also a member of the Academy of Family Medicine Residency Directors and the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine.

E. Jay Soileau, MD is the Assistant Director of the Residency Program. He graduated from LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans and did his residency in Family Medicine at W.O. Moss Regional Hospital. After completing residency he completed a two-year fellowship in Adolescent Medicine at The Children's Hospital of Birmingham and University of Alabama School of Medicine at Birmingham. Dr. Soileau is certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties in Family Medicine and Adolescent Medicine and by the American Society of Addiction Medicine in Addiction Medicine. His special interests are in disorders of growth, learning problems including ADHD, and mood and anxiety disorders in children and adolescents.


Bryan G. Barootes, MD graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in Canada and completed his residency in Family Medicine at the Vancouver General Hospital (British Columbia) and the Plains Health Center in Regina, Saskatchewan. He is certified in Family Medicine with a diploma in Sports Medicine from the Canadian Academy of Sports Medicine. He had a private practice in Canada in Sports & Family Medicine before moving to the United States. While in Canada, he was very involved in sports medicine at the local, provincial, national and international levels including eight years as team physician for the Canadian National Women’s Volleyball Team and for the Saskatchewan Roughrider Football Club of the Canadian Football League, as well as for the University of Regina. He served on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Academy of Sports Medicine and was President of the Sports Medicine and Science Council of Canada. Since his move to the United States he has been team physician at Illinois State University and Illinois Wesleyan University. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Family Physicians. He is a team physician at McNeese State University in Lake Charles specializing in sport’s concussions, preventative programs, injury treatment and drug education.


Danette Null, MD, family medicine specialist, recently joined the faculty of the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center-New Orleans Family Medicine Residency Program at Memorial as an assistant professor of Clinical Family Medicine.   A native of DeRidder and graduate of McNeese State University and Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, Dr. Null completed her internship and residency at the Naval Hospital Pensacola in Florida and is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. A family medicine physician on staff at the Naval Hospital Pensacola since 2001, she joined the teaching staff in 2004, and became an assistant professor of family medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in January 2007. Dr. Null joins other faculty members in training physicians specializing in family medicine.


Tuananh Pham, MD, family medicine specialist, recently joined the faculty of the Memorial/Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center-New Orleans Family Medicine Residency Program as an assistant professor of Clinical Family Medicine. A graduate of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and Louisiana State University Health School of Medicine in New Orleans, Dr. Pham completed his internship and residency at Memorial/LSUHSC Family Medicine Residency Program in Lake Charles.  A family medicine physician with the Family Medical Center in Natchez, Mississippi since 2004, he was previously on staff at the South Cameron Memorial Hospital Emergency Department.


David DeWitt, D. Min. obtained his Master’s degree in Divinity from the Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky in 1985. He completed his residency in Clinical Pastoral Education at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Alexandria, Louisiana in 1990 and went on to graduate with a doctorate in Health Care Ethics form the Graduate Theological Foundation in Donaldson, Indiana in 1997. He completed his Medical Ethics training in Seattle at the University of Washington School of Medicine Certificate Program in Health Care Ethics in 1997. Reverend DeWitt has served as the Director of Pastoral Care at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital for the past 15 years. He now serves as a full time faculty member here at the LSUHSC-N.O. Family Medicine Residency Program at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.

Part-time Faculty


 

Mark Dawson, MD, MBA is a graduate of Louisiana State University School of Medicine at New Orleans, completing a family medicine residency at W.O. Moss Regional Hospital in Lake Charles, Louisiana and a pediatrics residency at Earl K. Long Hospital in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Dr. Dawson is certified by the American Board of Family Practice and the American Board of Pediatrics. He has a Masters of Business Administration from LSU, bringing a business perspective to the Residency Program. Dr. Dawson oversees Pediatrics and Practice Management of the Program.


David L. Dobbins, MD, PhD is a 1980 graduate from the W.O. Moss Regional Hospital Family Practice Residency Program and is board certified in Family Medicine. Dr. Dobbins has been in private practice in Lake Charles for 25 years. His medical interests include teaching family practice, wound care and hyperbaric medicine.


Charles Humphries, MD is a graduate of the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo, Ohio. He completed his residency at LSUMC-S Family Medicine Residency at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. Upon completion of residency, Dr. Humphries joined the Family Medical Center here in Lake Charles, where he stayed for six years. He opened his own private practice in 2007, where he continues to practice the full spectrum of Family Medicine. He is a member of both the Calcasieu Parish and Louisiana State Medical Societies. He is also a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He and his wife reside in Lake Charles and have three children.


Bradley Loewer, M.D. is a graduate of LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport, Louisiana. He completed his residency at the LSU Health Sciences Center Family Medicine Residency Program at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital where he served as Chief Resident in his third year. As the Emergency Room Director at W.O. Moss Regional Hospital, Dr. Loewer’s main focus is serving the underprivileged patients in Southwest Louisiana. His interests also include mission medicine. He most recently participated in a three month long medical mission trip to Kenya, Africa in 2006. He is married with four children and enjoys fishing, golfing and is very active in his church.


Keane O’Neal, M.D. graduated near the top of his class from the University of Arkansas College of Medicine in Little Rock, Arkansas. He completed his residency at the LSU Health Sciences Center - Shreveport Family Medicine Residency Program at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital where he served as chief resident in his third year. He is a diplomate of the American Academy of Family Physicians and a member of both the Calcasieu Parish and Louisiana State Medical Societies. Dr. O’Neal is currently in practice at Lake Charles Medical and Surgical Clinic. He and his wife, Denys, reside in Lake Charles and have three children. 


Arthur W. Primeaux, MD is a graduate of Louisiana State University Medical School in Shreveport. He completed his residency at the W.O. Moss Regional Family Practice Residency Program and has been in private practice since 1983. He is board certified by the American Board of Family Practice.


Kenneth Thomas, M.D. is a graduate of LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport and completed his residency in Family Medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jacksonville, Mississippi. He is a member of the American Medical Association and the Southern Medical Association. Dr. Thomas is currently in private practice in Sulphur, Louisiana. He is married with two children and enjoys fishing, reading and spending time with his family.


Patrick Unkel, MD is a graduate of Tulane University School of Medicine, New Orleans, Louisiana, and completed a Pediatric Residency at New Orleans Charity Hospital. He is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. Dr. Unkel was co-founder and a practicing pediatrician of Children’s Clinic of Southwest Louisiana, Inc. He also served as Coordinator of Pediatrics at W.O. Moss Regional Hospital in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
