The Clinical Laboratory Science program is housed in the Pathology Department
of Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. The program is a accredited by the
NAACLS (National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences through
the AMA (American Medical Association).
We work with college seniors or those students with a degree in chemistry,
microbiology or biology for a one-year internship instructing them in
clinical laboratory science.
Our program is affiliated with three Louisiana universities:
- McNeese State University
- University of Louisiana at Monroe
- Louisiana Tech University
The instruction includes didactic as well as clinical instruction in all
of the major lab areas. Up to 10 students typically participate at any
given time. Students are accepted in August and January, for the corresponding
semester. 40 semester hours credit are granted for the clinical year and
a Certificate of Completion is awarded upon the successful completion
of the program.
Students who are interested in participating in this program must be enrolled
in a Medical Technology program, be in their junior or senior year and
