Memorial CEO Elected to LABI Board
Larry Graham, FACHE, Chief Executive Officer of Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, was recently elected to the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry’s (LABI) Board of Directors for 2011 at the business organization’s 36th annual membership meeting in Baton Rouge.
Founded in 1975, LABI is an association of 3,500 member companies representing approximately 6,600 business men and women across the state. About 80% of LABI’s members own or operate small businesses with 50 or fewer employees. LABI’s members share a common goal: to bring strategic focus to business issues before legislative, judicial and regulatory bodies in Louisiana and to improve the state’s business climate.
Graham has been at the helm of Lake Charles Memorial Hospital since 2006 and has over three decades of experience in healthcare administration and 25 years of experience as a hospital Chief Executive Officer. Before joining Memorial Hospital, Graham most recently served as CEO of Methodist Hospital in New Orleans and Chalmette Medical Center in St. Bernard.
“It is an honor to be elected to this board, which includes the greatest business leaders from not only the Lake area, but from the entire state of Louisiana,” said Graham. “I am proud to be a part of this group, and look forward to bringing my healthcare industry experience to the table.”
Since Graham took over leadership of Memorial Hospital, he has spearheaded improvements in the hospital’s quality, infrastructure, financial position, service excellence program and physician and nurse staffing. His credits include the recognition of Memorial as a major teaching hospital through its affiliation with Louisiana State University Health Science Center’s Family Residency Program – making it arguably the premier family medicine residency program in the state. Additionally, under his administration, 36 new and highly skilled physicians from top medical schools and centers nationwide have been recruited based on community medical needs. In order to find much needed funding for the area’s only community-owned, not-for-profit hospital, Graham re-established The Foundation at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital – the hospital’s philanthropic sector. As a result of all these activities, Memorial has bolstered its position as southwest Louisiana’s healthcare leader and increased its market share.
Mr. Graham is also a board member of such community and business organizations as the Louisiana Medical Mutual Insurance Company (LAMMICO), the Louisiana Hospital Association, the Southwest Louisiana Chamber and the United Way of Southwest Louisiana.
Mr. Graham received a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Illinois. He went on become a member of the Army Medical Services Corp for four years during which time he earned a Masters degree in Business Administration from Boston University. After leaving the medical service corps, he earned an additional Masters degree in Health Care Administration from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas.
