Memorial Hospital Hosts Cookin’ for a Cure with Chef Manny Augello
Lake Charles Memorial Hospital is proud to present a third helping of our culinary celebration of life and triumph over cancer, Cookin’ for a Cure – with special guest Chef Manny Augello.
Even as a child, Manny Augello’s life revolved around food. With an award-winning veteran chef as a father and thriving family restaurants as a training ground, Manny learned to cook the old fashion way, from the bottom up. Starting with every day chores around the kitchen, he began his training in Italian cuisine. From Sicily to Louisiana, Manny cooked his way across the Atlantic.
His skills and inspiration came from legendary Chefs Fergus Henderson and Marco Pierre White. Shortly after college, Manny moved to Lafayette to help in the opening of Jolie’s Louisiana Bistro and now holds position of executive chef.
Along with his wife Abi, Manny is the chef/owner of Blue Dinner Underground. Like all good chefs, he seeks to nourish – not just feeding the body, but feeding the soul with what he hopes is a memorable meal. Every dish he creates tells a story, each ingredient a character and together reciting a monologue of their journey – the cook’s intimate voyage.
Cookin’ for a Cure will be held on Wednesday, October 5th at Treasures of Marilyn’s, 3510 5th Avenue. Doors will open at 6pm, and Chef Augello will entertain guests with a cooking demonstration at 7pm, followed by a dinner and a special door prize giveaway. The door prize, donated by generous sponsors Iberia Bank, Dr. and Mrs. Gregory Rubino and Jolie’s Louisiana Bistro, include a Chef’s Table dinner for four at Jolie’s complete with a limo ride from Lake Charles to Lafayette and back, champagne for the limo ride, and two bottles of private reserve wine for dinner.
Cookin’ for a Cure is a night that recognizes cancer survivors as our honored guests, while proceeds benefit the Foundation at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital’s Cancer Care Fund. Tickets are $75 each, $750 for a table of 10, or $850 for a table of ten and two additional tickets for Memorial cancer survivors. Additional sponsorships are available by calling the Foundation at 494-3226. Survivor tickets may also be purchased for $75 each as a tax deductible donation.
