Ashley Cagle, PT, DPT, MTC Receives Manual Therapy Certification
Ashley Cagle, PT, DPT, MTC, a physical therapist with Lake Charles Memorial Hospital Outpatient Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Center, recently received certification in manual therapy from the prestigious Paris Institute at the University of St. Augustine.
Manual therapy is becoming a popular branch of physical therapy that employs more hands-on treatment by the therapist. With this certification, Cagle is able to assist the patient through rehabilitation through the use of techniques such as muscle and joint manipulation and mobilization, soft tissue massage and stretching. These treatments, along with a comprehensive rehabilitation regimen after surgery or injury, have shown to increase a patient’s healing time, flexibility, stability and function while also decreasing pain.
The Paris Institute at the University of St. Augustine was named after Stanley Paris, PT, PhD, the Founding President and Chairman of the Board of the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences. Since 1981, the Institute has given certifications in manual therapy to students who complete a series of courses and pass several written, oral and practical examinations. Cagle is the first physical therapist in Southwest Louisiana to receive this certification.
Cagle joined the Memorial staff in 2010. She received her bachelors degree from Louisiana College, and her doctorate in physical therapy from the University of St. Augustine. She is experienced in the treatment of patients who suffer from sports injuries, post-surgical extremity injuries and spinal injuries.
“We are very proud of Ashley for receiving this manual therapy certification,” said Chris Franks, Outpatient Therapy Program Manager. “She is a great asset to our Outpatient Therapy team, and we are happy to have her expertise in manual therapy as an additional branch of our comprehensive rehabilitation program.”
