Wednesday, April 30, 2014 - Memorial Hospital Foundation Honors Students at the Daffodil Tea

The Foundation at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital recently honored local seniors for their accomplishments in the six art disciplines. The recognition took place at The Daffodil Tea event at L’Auberge Casino Resort.

“The Daffodil Tea is a unique event intended to pair support for the Foundation’s Cancer Care Fund with a parish wide competition that identifies and awards scholarships to talented high school seniors intending to further their artistic skills in a college and/or private setting upon graduation,” says Leif Pedersen, Senior Vice President of Philanthropy at Memorial.

A panel of experts in the fields of dance, theater, creative writing, instrumental music, vocal music and visual arts chose one student from each of the six disciplines to represent all of the talented seniors in their particular field of expertise.

The six students chosen were Sydney Bergeron for creative writing, Carli Guillory for visual arts, Rebecca Grosset for vocal music, Megan Raftery for dance, Abigail Guillory for theatre and Jacob Bridges for instrumental music. Each student received a $500 scholarship.

The students performed in front of more than 200 guests. All proceeds from The Daffodil Tea are dedicated to the Cancer Care Fund and scholarships are contributed through the support of Ralph and Debbie Lewing.

The daffodil has long been the symbolic flower for cancer and you can find Daffodil Days presented world-wide during the month of April – National Cancer Control Month.
