Fast Food Adds Pounds

Every day, nearly one-third of U.S. children ages 4 to 19 eat fast food, which can add six extra pounds per child per year and increases the risk for obesity. A study of 6,212 boys and girls found that fast-food consumption has increased fivefold among children since 1970. Children who ate fast food consumed more fats, sugars and carbohydrates and fewer fruits and nonstarchy vegetables than youngsters who didn't eat fast food. The study was published in 2004 in the journal Pediatrics.
