Stressing Out Tied to Risk for Hypertension

Young people who are able to stay cool under pressure may be less likely to develop high blood pressure as they age, according to a study published in 2004 in the journal Circulation. Volunteers in the study were between the ages of 18 and 30 and had normal blood pressure. They underwent several stress tests, and those who had a larger increase in blood pressure in response to the stress were at greater risk for developing hypertension later, the researchers found.
