Melanoma Podcast

Melanoma, the most serious and potentially fatal skin cancer, develops primarily on areas of sun-exposed skin, including the scalp, face, lips, ears, neck, chest, arms and hands, and legs. But it can also form on areas that rarely see the light of day — your palms, beneath your fingernails, the spaces between your toes or under your toenails, and your genital area. Dr. Leroy Fredericks, a board certified oncologist on staff at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, discusses the signs and symptoms of melanoma and possible treatment options. For more information on melanoma or to schedule an appointment with Dr. Fredericks, call Medical Oncology Associates of Southwest Louisiana at (337) 494-6768 or visit
