The Emergency Department at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital is the largest trauma center in Southwest Louisiana. We treat approximately 36,000 patients each year.
We are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Our experienced staff includes board-certified emergency medicine physicians, LSU family practice residents, nurse practitioners, and registered nurses with certification in emergency nursing, a clinical educator and a variety of support personnel. Our department is equipped to handle critical injuries, life-threatening conditions and disaster situations with expertise and compassion.
The Emergency Department consists of a total of 17 treatment areas with 8 of these capable of cardiac monitoring.
The physical layout is structured to allow division of non-emergent and emergent type patients.
Special services we offer include:

  • Fast track for treatment of minor emergency cases
  • 24-hour psychiatric triage
  • Sexual assault nurse examiner program
  • Two trauma rooms equipped with invasive hemodynamic monitoring, ventilator support and radiology capabilities for orthopaedic treatment
  • Rooms equipped for emergency deliveries and c-sections
  • Decontamination room with negative pressure for handling any type of hazmat chemical contamination
  • 2 isolation rooms for possible infectious patients
