Lake Charles Memorial Hospital understands the value of education. One of the ways we support this belief is through our involvement as a training site for physicians to complete their family medicine residency requirements. This will enhance the opportunity for future generations in Southwest Louisiana, and beyond, to have access to a high standard of care. The Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center - New Orleans Family Medicine Residency Program at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital provides the teaching foundation for resident/physicians to complete their three years of specialty training in Family Medicine.

Under the medical direction of Alan LeBato, MD, and additional faculty, the resident/physicians are learning how to provide comprehensive and professional care for their patients. To date, 66 physicians have chosen our program as their residency training site. Lake Charles Memorial Hospital's mission is to not only treat today's patients, but also prepare tomorrow's physicians to continue providing excellent healthcare for the future.

The goals of our residency program include:

• Providing patient care that is continuous, comprehensive, and in the context of the entire family.
• Preparing our physicians to practice medicine in a full range of settings and in a continuously evolving professional environment.
• Enabling our physicians to demonstrate competence and compassion in providing the highest quality and comprehensive care to all members of the family.
• Encouraging our physicians to display leadership skills and good citizenship in the medical society and communities in which they practice their specialty of Family Practice.

Since 1995, the Louisiana State University Health Science Center - New Orleans Family Medicine Residency Program at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital has been chosen by 66 medical school graduates to complete their residency training. In 2002, our program was awarded full accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.
