An Evening w/ George Rodrigue

An Evening with Artist George Rodrigue

The Foundation at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital hosted a very special Art for the Soul Reception featuring renowned Louisiana artist, George Rodrigue.

While in Lake Charles, Mr. Rodrigue visited with local community and business leaders and educators to discuss the George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts [GRFA]. A not-for-profit foundation created by his family in 2009, GRFA’s mission is to advocate the importance of visual arts in the development of our youth.

“GRFA actively encourages the use of art within all curriculum and supports a variety of art education programs, including an annual art contest and scholarship program for Louisiana high school juniors and seniors."  The 2010 Grand Prize Scholarship winner, Sean Hicks, is currently a freshman art major at McNeese University.

In support of the Art for the Soul program at Memorial, Mr. Rodrigue released a revised rendition of his 1982 “Doctor on the Bayou.” The silkscreen prints are signed and numbered by George Rodrigue and limited to an edition of 300.

Collectors and supporters of Art for the Soul and GRFA may purchase one or more prints for $500 each.  All proceeds are tax-deductible and will be divided equally between the George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts and The Foundation at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.
