Charles Memorial Hospital has joined other area hospitals, the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency, and the Louisiana Hospital Association in the Donate Life Louisiana Hospital Campaign, which is the first-ever, statewide hospital donor registration drive initiative in the nation. Memorial is excited to participate in this life-saving campaign.
The Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency (LOPA) is the
federally-designated organ procurement organization for the State of
Louisiana. The agency focuses on educating the medical community and
the general public about organ and tissue donation issues, working
with families through the donation process, recovering donated organs
and tissue, and placing the organs and tissue for transplant.
Over 1,800 individuals in Louisiana are waiting for a life-saving transplant. One organ donor has the power to save up to nine lives, restore sight to two people and enhance the lives of up to 50 more through tissue donation.
Hospital employees and members of the
community can register their generous decisions to become organ and
tissue donors online here!
Lake Charles Memorial Hospital is proud to have United Blood Services as its blood provider.
United Blood Services is no stranger to South Louisiana. This non-profit community blood service organization—one of the nation’s oldest and largest—has been providing blood and blood products to over 50 hospitals in 32 parishes since 1953. United Blood Services is regulated, licensed and inspected by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The organization has an extensive quality control program and national laboratories where the most current technology and the most sophisticated tests are used to screen volunteer blood donations.
Community blood drives are at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital every 2nd and 4th Monday of each month from 2:00pm to 6:00pm in the bloodmobile parked directly across from the hospital. Potential donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Parental/Guardian permission is required for donors under 18 years of age. Participants may register online here.
