New LA law mandates newborn pulse ox screenings

A new Louisiana law now requires an extra test for newborns before they leave the hospital.  Pulse oximetry screenings provide a critical tool for doctors to diagnose potentially life-threatening heart conditions in newborns.

Brown to Serve as Moss Administrator

Larry Graham, CEO and President of the Lake Charles Memorial Health System, has named Bernita Loyd Brown as Administrator of the W.O. Moss Memorial Health Clinic. In her role as Administrator, Brown will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Moss campus including the urgent care clinic, various outpatient clinics, diagnostic department and pharmacy.

Lake Charles Memorial and LSU Health Systems Finalize Moss Regional Partnership

The public-private cooperative endeavor agreement between Lake Charles Memorial Health System and Louisiana State University Health System will go into effect June 24.   As a result, W.O. Moss Regional's inpatient, general surgery and emergency services will move to Memorial's main campus. Emergency services will no longer be available at Moss Regional but on June 20, the Moss Regional ER will transition to a minor urgent care clinic.

Memorial Power Outages

Three medical clinics will be closed on Friday, June 07, 2013 due to power outages. The clinics are the Memorial/LSUHSC Family Medicine Clinic, the Memorial Medical Group Aster Office and the OB Care clinic. Lake Charles Memorial Hospital is not affected by the power outages in the area and is operating at full capacity. Patients with appointments at the clinics have been notified of the closures. Those needing pharmacy services can come to the Medical Plaza Pharmacy at Memorial Hospital’s main campus. All clinics are scheduled to be re-open on Monday.

Denise Peshoff, RN, BSN, a Lake Charles native, was recently named the new Program Director of the Wound Care Center, a part of the Lake Charles Memorial Health System. In her new role with Memorial, Peshoff will be responsible for the overall management of the Wound Care Center, including overseeing its operations and budgeting.
