American Board of Internal Medicine Recertifies Internists
Internal Medicine Clinic of Lake Charles is pleased to announce that W. Gerry Hebert, M.D., Peter W. Karam, M.D., Brian D. Clements, M.D., and Craig V. Broussard, M.D., were recently awarded recertification by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM).
Board certification represents the highest standard in internal medicine and its 18 subspecialties and means that internists have demonstrated – to their peers and to the general public – that an internist has the clinical judgment, skills and attitudes essential for the delivery of excellent patient care.
Certification by the ABIM, a non-profit, independent evaluation organization, demonstrates that a physician has met vigorous standards through intensive study, self assessment and evaluation. Additionally, certification encompasses the six areas established by the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), and sets the stage for continual professional development through values centered on life-long learning.
Since 1990, internal medicine certifications became time-limited, and certified internists are required to complete the Maintenance of Certification program every 10 years in order to maintain certification status. The Maintenance of Certification program helps general internists and subspecialists improve the quality of patient care they provide, and fosters the continuing scholarship required for professional excellence in the practice of medicine.
Internal Medicine Clinic of Lake Charles is located at 2770 3rd Avenue, Suite 350. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call (337) 494-6800.
