Lake Charles Memorial Hospital provides comprehensive mental health treatment for adults, with the backing of a full service hospital. Our psychiatric services are designed to identify and treat behavioral and psychiatric mental health problems in adults and the geriatric population.
A team approach combines quality care from a variety of disciplines, including a psychiatrist, psychiatric nurses, social workers, case managers, activity therapists, dietitians, occupational therapists and behavioral health coordinators. The treatment team will individually and collectively observe and identify problems that resulted in hospitalization to develop a treatment plan with specific goals and objectives. We aim to promote the highest level of independence and competence possible for each individual.
Inpatient services are available to treat a broad range of mental health disorders, including:
- Mood disorders

Individuals who are suffering from any of the following symptoms may benefit from the mental health services at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital:

Lake Charles Memorial Psychiatric Services now has an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). The program is tailored to patients who have emotional and mental issues.
The benefits of intensive outpatient treatment are allowing the patient to be in treatment without the confinement of a hospital. The goal is to prevent hospitalization, to assist in the transition from inpatient hospitalization to home, while encouraging growth, development and improving function.
This program combines psychotherapy and medication management. Licensed professionals under the direct supervision of a psychiatrist, provide interventions tailored to each client’s needs. Group, individual and family therapy are some of the modalities utilized to address issues such as stress, anger, anxiety, depression, distorted thinking and other symptoms disrupting a person’s life. Dr. Said Cantu is honored to be the attending Psychiatrist and will be part of the patient’s plan of care to help them reach their goals.
An IOP is only 3-4 days a week Monday through Friday with the program beginning at 9am and ending at 1:30pm. We have full transportation and provide a light breakfast snack and lunch.
In the event that the patient is seeing another Psychiatrist and has the desire to attend LCMH’s IOP, the patient will stop seeing the current Psychiatrist and be seen by Dr. Cantu for the duration of the program. When the patient is discharged from the program, the patient will be discharged back to the Psychiatrist he/she had prior to entering our program, if they so desire.
