Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Dr. Frank Marrero

Cramping, bloating, painful gas, diarrhea and constipation? It could be IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), an annoying, uncomfortable condition of the lower intestine that affects as many as 1 in 5 adults.

While IBS does not cause inflammation or increase the risk of colorectal cancer, persistent changes in bowel habits could indicate the presence of other, more serious conditions, including ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease or cancer.

Learn more about the signs, symptoms and treatment options for irritable bowel syndrome that range from lifestyle changes to medication with Dr. Frank Marrero, a board certified gastroenterologist on staff at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.

A graduate of the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, Dr. Marrero completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in gastroenterology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio. Prior to relocating to Lake Charles, he served as a staff physician at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation’s Digestive Disease Institute – Swallowing Center.
