Reba Desonier, a physical therapist with Lake Charles Memorial Health System
is now certified to perform dry needling. Dry needling is an effective
treatment for chronic pain, acute pain, radicular pain, muscle imbalance
and tightness, muscle paralysis and more.
The treatment is delivered through a small filament advancing into the
muscle in the region of a trigger point. Dry needling is simple, safe,
and most of all effective as indicated from multiple research studies
over the last few years of its growing popularity.
To attain this certification, Desonier completed more than 50 hours of
classroom instruction, with several written and practical examinations
throughout the courses. Desonier was required to perform a significant
amount of literature review and in-depth study before taking each course
and was required to perform 200 encounters to practice her technique.
Therapists are required by the Louisiana State Board to have two years
experience as a licensed therapist before they can take their first class.
