Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, the main campus of the Memorial Health
System, is the region's largest family-centered medical complex, serving
the healthcare needs of Southwest Louisiana. Memorial Health System is
locally-owned and operated by a Board of Trustees from the community it
serves, is a member of the Voluntary Hospitals of America (VHA), and is
fully licensed by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare
Established in 1952, the main campus consists 313 licensed acute care
beds on Oak Park Boulevard. Memorial is constantly striving to improve
the patient experience by offering the best quality of care in terms of
both state-of-the-art innovations and treatment options, as well as the
commitment of our dedicated and compassionate staff. The main campus provides
the largest array of specialty. emergency and critical care services in
the community. Our state-of-the art, 15,102 sq ft. Medical Intensive Care
Unit opened in 2016 on the 9th Floor of the main campus. The existing
10,180 sq. ft., on the 3rd floor Surgical ICU will undergo renovations.
Between these two units, Memorial has the largest critical care capacity
in southwest Louisiana with a total of 36 beds.
The main hospital located on Oak Park Boulevard consists of 313 acute care
beds along with specialty care in Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Family
Medicine, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Nephrology, Neurology, Neurosurgery,
Oncology, Orthopaedics, Pain Medicine, Physical Rehabilitation, Pulmonology,
Radiation Oncology, Rheumatology, Trauma Surgery, Urology, Psychiatric,
full service laboratory and diagnostic imaging, as well as breast health,
cancer center, gastroenterology center, home health, wound care and sleep
health specialty services.
Since 2006, Memorial has expanded services, physicians, technology and
facilities. To date, over $160 million in capital projects have been implemented
including expansion and/or modernization of cath lab, surgery, sterile
processing, rehabilitation, food services, pediatrics, gastroenterology
center, and intensive care unit. The 40-bed Emergency Department expansion
doubled the size of the previous space to just under 26,000 sq ft. and
includes specialized treatment areas for critical care, mental health
and fast track non-critical care designed to improve the care process
and reduce waiting times. In addition, there are 6 trauma bays for our
Trauma Program. Treating an average 63,000 patient in the ER annually,
as the largest, full-service health system in Southwest Louisiana with
the most specialists, Memorial has 24/7/365 coverage of board certified
emergency medicine doctors.
Lake Charles Memorial consistently receives The Joint Commission’s
Gold Seal of Approval® for accreditation by demonstrating compliance
with The Joint Commission’s national standards for health care quality
and safety in hospitals. The Cancer Center is also a recipient of the
Outstanding Achievement Award by the American College of Surgeons’
(ACS) Commission on Cancer (CoC).
