Curriculum

The rotations for the Family Medicine Residency Program are designed to provide comprehensive training to the resident-physician in all of the medical components necessary to fulfill the broad medical specialty of Family Medicine.To comply with the guidelines listed by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, and to meet the requirements listed in the Special Requirements for Family Medicine Residents, the following rotations have been implemented for the LCMH/LSUHSC Family Medicine Residency Program:

Post Graduate Year 1 with Duration

  • Internal Medicine, 3 months
  • Pediatric-Outpatient, 2 months
  • OB/GYN, 2 months
  • Emergency Medicine, 1 month
  • General Surgery, 2 months
  • Community Medicine, 1 month
  • Night Float, 1 month
  • Family Medicine Center, 1 half day per week
  • Vacation, 2 weeks

Post Graduate Year 2 with Duration

  • Internal Medicine, 3 months
  • Pediatric-Inpatient, 2 months
  • Obstetrics & Gynecology, 1 month
  • Orthopedics, 1 month
  • Sports Medicine/Practice Management, 1 month
  • Internal Medicine Outpatient Clinic, 1 month
  • Emergency Medicine, 1 month
  • Night Float, 1 month
  • Acute Care Clinic Float, 1 month
  • Family Medicine Center, 2 half days per week
  • Vacation, 3 weeks

Post Graduate Year 3 with Duration

  • Internal Medicine, 2 months
  • Pulmonary/ICU, 1 month
  • Cardiology, 1 month
  • Pediatrics (PICU), 1 month
  • Internal Medicine Outpatient Clinic, 1 month
  • Acute Care Clinic Float, 1.5 months
  • Subspecialty, 1 month
  • Night Float, 0.5 month
  • Electives, 3 months
  • Family Medicine Center, 2 half days per week
  • Vacation, 4 weeks
