Dr. Valencia has a degree in microbiology and immunology from the University of Miami. He went on to receive his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine. His post-graduate training includes a psychiatric residency at Larkin Community Hospital in South Miami, where he served as Chief Resident as well as chair of various education committees.

Dr. Valencia is a general psychiatrist, but has additional experience in addiction psychiatry, medical detoxification and telepsychiatry. He is a member of the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry and American Psychiatric Association. He is licensed to practice medicine in Louisiana and Florida.
