Why I chose Memorial/LSUHSC FMRP: I visited Lake Charles a few times and loved the city. I wanted to be in a city that would have a perfect balance of work and lifestyle. I also love the fact that Lake Charles is only 2 hours away from the major metropolitan areas such as Houston and New Orleans. Aside from the city, upon my interview at LCMH, I fell in love with the program and all that it had to offer. From it being an unopposed program to amazing residents and a brilliant faculty. I knew that I wanted to be a part of a residency program that was unopposed and would maximize my learning opportunities throughout so that I would one day graduate feeling confident enough to practice on my own.

Everyone is always eager to learn and teach. The faculty, residents, and support staff are very welcoming - it's a wonderful atmosphere to grow not only as a physician but as a person!

Why I chose Memorial/LSUHSC FMRP: I chose LSUHSC Family Medicine at LCMH because I wanted to be trained at a program that allows you to see a large volume of patients with a variety of pathology while staying true to the Family Medicine Specialty. Each of the attendings are different in their interests and practices which is also attractive, because it allows exposure to the different ways of doing things so that I might find what works best for me. LSUHSC Family Medicine at LCMH is the perfect place to learn, work hard, see a large volume of patients and have fun.

Why I chose Memorial/LSUHSC FMRP: There area a lot of great family medicine programs out there, but Lake Charles was far and away the best fit for me. There are countless hands-on leaning opportunities as this is an unopposed program with tremendous access to patients and strong working relationships with consultants. Everyone I met here - from the program director, attendings, current residents to the office staff - seemed sincerely invested in my success as a future resident as they were all welcoming, kind, and knowledgeable. There is very strong inpatient and outpatient training, with the opportunity to help care for ICU patients and an emphasis on procedures. My career path involves returning to small town Louisiana to hang my shingle, practicing traditional "full spectrum" family medicine and hopefully teaching family medicine at some point. I felt this program aligned well with my career goals. But overall, the vibe of this program is just fantastic and that is why I chose to train here.

LCMH offers a diverse and deep inpatient experience that provides rare pathology along side the bread and butter of hospital medicine. Furthermore, as it is an unopposed program, the opportunity to follow your clinic patients into the hospital, through the ICU and back is an important characteristic and will no doubt prepare me for my future practice, regardless of what comes through the door.
