Breastfeeding

Memorial for Women offers an extensive support system for breastfeeding mothers. We have certified lactation specialists on staff and all of our nursing staff receive additional training so they may all be of assistance to our breastfeeding moms as well. In addition to individual assistance, we also offer classes and breastfeeding support.

Memorial for Women has also earned The GIFT certification from the Louisiana Maternal & Child Health Coalition. The GIFT (Guided Infant Feeding Techniques) program encourages breastfeeding, through education and support, to improve the health of mothers and infants. To receive this designation, Memorial for Women has implemented policies and procedures to support the GIFT’s Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding, which are based on World Health Organization/UNICEF guidelines.
