Lake Charles Memorial Health System (LCMHS) is the first hospital in Southwest Louisiana to offer Aquablation® therapy using the HYDROS™ Robotic System — a next-generation, AI-powered platform designed to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), commonly known as an enlarged prostate.
Aquablation therapy is clinically proven to provide significant, long-lasting symptom relief while preserving sexual function and continence across prostates of all shapes and sizes, a major advancement compared to traditional surgical options.
BPH affects approximately one in two men between the ages of 51 and 60 and can significantly impact quality of life. Common symptoms include frequent or urgent urination, difficulty starting or maintaining a steady stream, incomplete bladder emptying, and increased nighttime urination. While standard treatments have been effective, many come with trade-offs, including potential loss of sexual function and risk of incontinence.
“The Aquablation technology uses a heat-free water jet combined with real-time imaging, allowing for precise and controlled removal of excess prostate tissue,” said Dr. Farjaad Siddiq, urologist with Lake Charles Memorial Health System. “Because the procedure avoids heat, we’re able to better preserve surrounding structures that are critical to maintaining function and quality of life.”
By bringing this advanced technology to the region, Lake Charles Memorial is expanding access to innovative care for men in Southwest Louisiana, delivering superior care closer than ever and eliminating the need to travel for specialized treatment.
“For many men, symptoms of BPH are something they quietly live with for years,” said Dr. John Upshaw, urologist with Lake Charles Memorial Health System. “Offering Aquablation here means patients now have convenient access to a leading-edge, effective treatment option, so they can get back to living comfortably and confidently.”
