In the last several years, the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine has gained a great deal of attention and support because of its ability to prevent various strains of HPV – which is the leading cause of squamous cell cervical cancer, and a contributing cause to various other forms of cancer in women. With a great deal of misinformation surrounding the topic, the decision of whether or not to have your child vaccinated can seem daunting.

To learn more about the facts of the HPV vaccine and its effectiveness in cancer prevention, joinGisele McKinney, MD, an OB/GYN with Memorial Medical Group for HPV Vaccine 101, a free seminar.

A native of Chicago and graduate of Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Dr. McKinney is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine. She completed her residency at Chicago’s Cook County Hospital. Prior to moving to Lake Charles, Dr. McKinney was on the staff of Martin General Hospital in Williamston, North Carolina. She most recently saw patients at Southwest Louisiana Center for Health Services.

HPV Vaccine 101 is a free seminar being held at 12 noon on Friday, May 27, in the Shearman Conference Center at Memorial Hospital on Oak Park Boulevard. Light lunch will be provided, and reservations are required at least 24 hours in advance.
