Colon cancer rates are increasing among adults younger than age 50. The recent death of actor Chadwick Boseman, age 43, from Stage 3 colon cancer, is bringing to light the fact that colon cancer is not just a concern for older people anymore. There has been a significant rise in colon cancer among those age 30 to 49. Why? There is no single reason. Colon cancer often goes undetected unless you make the effort to detect it with a colon screening.

Gastroenterologist Eric Fontenot, MD, will discuss the possible rise in colon cancer among younger adults and how you can lower your risk at this month’s online seminar. He has a medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine with his internal medicine residency at University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center. He completed a gastroenterology fellowship at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans with a focus on therapeutic GI procedures including endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), a procedure used to diagnose diseases of the biliary system, pancreas and liver, and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), a special endoscope that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce detailed images of the digestive tract.
